ILEP is an exchange program funded by the United States Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the International Research Exchange Board (IREX).
The Filipino teachers join 60 other teachers from 15 countries who will participate in a semester-long academic program at a US university. The program will include course work in teaching methodologies, lesson planning, teaching strategies for home classroom environment, teacher leadership, and instructional technology. They will also complete an internship at a US secondary school.
Upon completion of the program, the participants become eligible to apply for small grants to implement projects that share their US experiences and contribute to the growth of their communities.
The participants were welcomed on January 5 at the Washington Plaza Hotel by Teacher Exchange Branch Chief Jennifer Gibson of the Department of State and IREX President Ambassador Robert Pearson.
ILEP began in 2006 and has trained 332 teachers from 19 countries. The participating universities are the Clemson University (South Carolina), James Madison University (Virginia), Kent State University (Ohio), and University of Alabama (Alabama).
